Last Saturday night, beats were dropping and the beach was popping. After a jam packed day of Dew Tour BMX park and skateboard bowl finals, thousands of fans flocked to the Ocean City, MD boardwalk for free concert on the beach featuring a star-studded hip hop lineup of The Dean’s List, The Cool Kids, and headliner Kid Cudi.
With all the heat and hoopla that this combo stirred up, the atmosphere at the concert was wild. The up and coming group The Dean’s List put together a solid opening set, playing their college anthem “Dear Professor” and a few other quality songs and mixes. The trio out of Boston used some East Coast style and definitely knew how to pump the crowd up.
The Cool Kids roamed the beach stage like they owned it, throwing down some serious beats and gave some punch to their latest hit “Swimsuits,” which is also featured in Mountain Dew’s recent Cooling Off commercial campaign. But, cooling off is exactly what The Cool Kids didn’t have in mind, and gave a perfect lead in for Cudi.
Kid Cudi, “Mr. Rager” himself, definitely lived up to the nickname. He kicked things off with a blasting version of “Revofev,” went through some of his newer tracks from Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, then closed with a killer set of his classics “Day ‘n’ Night,” “Pursuit of Happiness,” “Soundtrack 2 My Life,” and finally “Up Up and Away.”
To say the least, the show was amazing. Plus, it showcased hip hop’s young guns, up and coming guys, and proven talent – all for FREE. That’s right up Colt-On’s alley, right?
Here’s a short video from the concert of Cudi’s “Up Up and Away” taken from the back of the beach. Check it out, and be sure to book a ticket for next year’s Dew Tour. I’m sure the boards and the beats will return to OCMD in 2012. Turn it on. Turn it up.
